Elden Ring offers players a massive open world filled with hidden dungeons, rare treasures, and unique boss fights that are easy to miss on an initial playthrough. One such location is the Lakeside Crystal Cave, a subterranean network tucked away in the marshlands of Liurnia of the Lakes. Exploring this damp cavern rewards adventurers with valuable upgrade materials, powerful equipment, and access to an essential character quest line.
Finding the Hidden Entrance in Liurnia
Locating the Lakeside Crystal Cave can be quite tricky because its entrance sits flush against the cliffside at water level rather than atop the plateau. To reach it safely, players should teleport to the Scenic Isle Site of Grace located in the southern portion of the lake. From this island, mount Torrent and ride directly south toward the massive rock face where the water meets the cliff.
As you approach the shore, look closely along the dark rock walls for a vertical fissure that serves as the cavern opening. Unlike other major landmarks in the Lands Between, this optional dungeon does not feature a lit brazier outside to guide wandering tarnished. Stepping into the dark opening will quickly lead you to the first Site of Grace, where a nearby treasure chest contains a useful Arteria Leaf.
Navigating the Upper Caverns and Demi-Humans
The first half of the dungeon is heavily populated by territorial Demi-Humans who will aggressively ambush players from the surrounding shadows. Stick to the left side of the path and carefully jump up the rocky incline to clear out the initial group of scouts. Managing your footing here is crucial as rushing forward can easily draw the attention of multiple enemies at once.
Continuing along the upper cliffside path leads into a separate chamber housing a larger Demi-Human Chief and his allies. Defeating these foes allows you to safely open a hidden chest containing the valuable Spear Talisman. After securing this piece of equipment, backtrack to the main cavern ledge to prepare for a steep descent into the lower depths.
Descending Into the Crystal Snail Nest
To progress further into the dungeon, you must carefully drop down a series of illuminated stone platforms extending across the central chasm. Slowing down your descent ensures you can safely pick up crafting materials like Cave Moss along the way. At the bottom of the drop, you will arrive at a campfire guarded by unusual Crystallized Snails.
These magical creatures pose a threat by launching high-impact crystal projectiles that can quickly deplete your health bar if left unchecked. Clear the area efficiently to loot nearby corpses for Throwing Daggers and a Golden Rune. Moving forward through the eastern tunnels reveals additional groups of snails guarding helpful upgrade supplies like Smithing Stones.
Defeating the Bloodhound Knight
The final challenge of the Lakeside Crystal Cave is an encounter with a swift and exceptionally agile Bloodhound Knight boss. This opponent utilizes erratic movements and quick horizontal slashes to close the distance between you instantly. Utilizing a durable Spirit Ash summon can help divert his aggression, allowing you to easily counterattack from behind.
Maintaining a defensive posture prevents you from getting caught in his high-damage combos during the frantic engagement. Overcoming this formidable protector rewards you with the Cerulean Amber Medallion, which significantly increases your maximum focus points. Once the dust settles, proceed through the exit tunnel to discover the Slumbering Wolf Shack where you can meet the important NPC Latenna.
