Tracking down Notorious Marks in Final Fantasy 16 provides players with challenging combat encounters and valuable crafting materials. Among these dangerous targets is the Bomb King, a Level 33 Rank B beast that demands strategic preparation and careful positioning. Defeating this flaming adversary is crucial for players looking to upgrade their inventory space and gather high-tier resources.

Unlocking and Locating the Bomb King

Before searching for the Bomb King, players must first activate the Weird Science side quest in the Hideaway. This quest becomes available after making sufficient progress through the Out of the Shadow main storyline. Once unlocked, the target's notice appears on the Hunt Board, sending Clive toward the realm of Sanbreque.

To reach the boss quickly, fast travel to The Dragon's Aery Obelisk and head southeast toward The Imperial Chase. Pathing further through the woods leads to a secluded clearing known as The Crock. The giant fiery monster waits inside the abandoned Fallen ruins located at the far end of this area.

Combat Strategies and Abilities

Unlike standard Eikonic boss fights, the Bomb King lacks a traditional stagger meter, meaning you cannot knock it down to deal burst damage. It primarily uses ranged fiery attacks such as Coronation, which sends massive fireballs exploding across the arena. Timing your dodges is essential to avoiding continuous burning damage during the encounter.

The most dangerous phase of the fight occurs when the Bomb King uses its Witan ability to summon smaller bomb minions. These adds quickly charge up and self-destruct, inflicting immense area-of-effect damage if you stay nearby. Keep your distance when they glow, and focus your primary attacks back on the main boss once the explosions subside.

Bounty Rewards and Item Upgrades

Felling the Bomb King yields immediate spoils, granting Clive 1,000 Experience, 65 Ability Points, 9,000 Gil, and 20 Renown. In addition to these standard combat rewards, the boss drops a rare crafting material called a Bomb Ember. Claiming the ash left behind in the arena allows you to fulfill the quest requirements.

Returning to Owain at the Hideaway with the gathered materials completes the Weird Science questline. He uses the Bomb Ember to craft the Treated Potion Satchel, permanently expanding your consumable item capacity. This inventory expansion makes tackling late-game boss fights significantly easier.
